The following Prices are as of 8/27/07 and may change without notice at anytime.  Most of us breeders in the Midwest try to keep our prices relatively the same.  Many people will be upset with the prices thinking they are too much to pay for "just a cat."  We feel that our babies are new additions to a family and not just a "pet or cat."  Anyone that has ever been owned by a birman will tell you they are worth every penny!  Many people also seem to think that breeders charging such prices for their kittens are getting rich - to this we all respond with "I WISH!"

Breeding cats is a hobby.  The money we get for kittens goes directly back into caring for them, and there is usually nothing left over, in fact, we are usually in the red by the end of each year.   Some of the many expenses that absorb this money are as follows:  food (only the best), litter, veterinarian care (which includes spays, neuters, general care and check ups, emergency c-sections which is usually several hundred, etc.), grooming supplies, many herbs/medications/supplies to have on hand for birthing and those minor things we deal with on a regular basis, and then we have show expenses which include but are not limited to:  gas, entry fees (anywhere from $75 to $200 depending on the number of cats you are showing), hotel expenses, food and show/grooming supplies, a show weekend usually costs about $300 to $500 on the average.

So this is just a general idea of what we spend those "big bucks" on and I'm sure I've forgotten many things, but I think you should be able to get the idea now.

The Prices for MY kittens are as follows:

Pet Quality:  Unneutered and unspayed - right now the vets I have patronized are not comfortable doing early speutering and none are willing to do it at a price that is affordable for doing many kittens at one time.

All pet quality kittens - seal, blue lilac and chocolate points in solid or lynx pattern are priced between $650 and $700.

Breeding Quality:  this means for breeding only and not for show, or possibly just championable - this is usually because of markings.

Females - $1000 - 1200

Males - Usually males that fall into this category are not sold for breeding, although it is possible for a male to be outstanding in every way and just be missing a lace or glove and a breeder MAY let him go as a trial to see if he produces nice kittens despite his fault.   Prices in this category could be anywhere from $1300 - 1800

Show Premiers:  This is a spayed or neutered cat purchased for showing.

Blue and Seal Points - $800

Lynx, Lilac and Chocolate Points - $800

Show/Breeding Quality: this varies widely and is very dependent on each individual kitten's quality and the "lines" (meaning the pedigree, lineage or ancestors of the kitten) that the kitten is from.  The following is a price range and it is quite possible a kitten could be a little below or even a little above the below mentioned prices.

Females - $1300 - 1800

Males - $1800 - $2500

*With established breeders a trade for a kitten of the approximate same quality is sometimes an option.  However, I usually do not have room for another cat very often.  It is also possible to work with a breeder and pay a lower price and then pay the rest later after kittens are born, or owe the breeder a kitten back at a later date - but this greatly depends on the breeder, the buyer, what the mitigating circumstances are, how well they know each other, etc.  There may be other options as well that a breeder is willing to consider.  I do usually try my best to work with someone if they are genuinely interested in doing what it takes to raise birmans in the most appropriate way possible.
